SURPRISE SUNSET PROPOSAL at A RIO GRANDE OVERLOOK

I feel so lucky to haven’t gotten to document so many proposals in Big Bend this fall! This proposal was the final proposal of the season, and it was really fun to bring together! Rowan reached out with a vision of doing a picnic (something they’ve done together many times), and then transitioning from picnic into a surprise proposal with me documenting it all.

CHECK OUT PRAVEEN + CHANDRANI’S MILKY WAY PROPOSAL

I pretended to be a fellow traveler just enjoying and photographing the sunset, but secretly I was snapping photos of them during their picnic—and of course capturing the moment when Rowan proposed. These types of wedding proposals always give me a rush of adrenaline trying to make sure I’m in the right spot at the right time and don’t give away the surprise. Thankfully, Lainey had no idea and was so happy when she realized that this was not their normal style of picnic.

As with all of my wedding proposal photoshoots, I always add time after the proposal for us to get some portraits. These photos are great for sharing with family and friends, telling the story of the proposal, and using for Save the Dates! For Rowan and Lainey’s portrait session, we had gorgeous, creamy sunlight that transitioned into a beautiful blue hour. Here are a few of my favorite moments from our time together.
